Adobe Systems Inc. has released a new version of their SVG Viewer software. Version 3.0 is now ready for download from Adobe’s Web site, and sports myriad enhancements and improvements, including native support for Mac OS X 10.1.

SVG, or Scalable Vector Graphics, is a fairly new XML-based graphics and file format that enables designers to create dynamically generated graphics using real time data. SVG Viewer is, as the name implies, a software application that enables users to view and manipulate SVG imagery.

Adobe said that in addition to “significant performance improvements,” SVG Viewer 3.0’s new features have been deployed to more fully support the SVG 1.0 specification. Changes include:

Elements and attributes

Support for the following elements: color-profile, marker, title, and view; full support for the switch element; support for the general requiredFeatures and systemLanguage attributes; and the image element now supports links to SVG files.

CSS properties

Support for the following CSS properties: color-interpolation-filters, color-profile, marker, marker-end, marker-mid, marker-start; support for the @media CSS rule, and the media attribute for style elements. The values all, screen and print are supported.
